School has me in a headlock, so unfortunately I never got around to making the February retrospective…so February and March come together this time around~
Cross a doll off my wishlist when Hayley arrived! Blanche was one of the Pullips on my original wishlist (compiled WAY back in the day). She came nude and with no stock except for her earrings, which is good motivation for me to starting sewing more doll clothes, I think. (She also came with a small amigurumi handmade friend, which was so sweet of her seller!) On her to-do list is a new wig, although her stock wig is still okay, just a tad tangled.
Two days later, Viola Emily arrived! And the strangest thing happened.
The moment I took her out of her postage box, I just fell in love with her. I had her sitting in my lap with me for most of the day, or perched next to my computer on my desk, always in my eyesight. I honestly felt like I didn’t want her out of my sight for a single moment. I haven’t been that absolutely enchanted with a doll since I was a little girl! It was so magical.
But, the info! She’s a Seila who arrived with partial stock; she’s missing her book, key, birdcage, and extra hairpiece. I’m going to replace the book and birdcage with new items (I’ve already given her a decorative silver key I’ve just had sitting on a keyring for ages without a real purpose…or maybe it was just waiting for her? ^~), in silver, because I think the silver tone goes better with her stock outfit. I’m not too fussed about her hairpiece, since I think she looks better without it.
Later that day, my brother surprised me with a package from the post office, and these two lovely ladies had arrived! These two are part of something I’m calling Project Junk; expect a long, thoughtful post on this later, but the basics are thus, respectively: Euphoria is a Sfoglia with all stock in a very rough state, and Lunarosa is a Shinku head on an unknown Type 3 body with wrist cracks, and Obitsu curled hands. She came to me with all Moon’s stock, brand new and in excellent condition, and with a fluffy pink wig, which didn’t suit her, so I replaced with a long, straight, wine-red wig I had in the wig box that I’ve been waiting to look good on someone since I received it with Raianne. And speaking of Raianne…
…she immediately fell in love with Lunarosa’s fluffy pink wig, and commandeered it. And to my surprise, she looks great in it! She’s adorable! Shows that sometimes your dolls know best ;P
Also along with the lovely Project Junk girls came Lilias, a Little Pullip Raphia, much to Lily’s delight. She’s my third Little Pullip and certainly won’t be my last~
With the beginning of uni looming eerily, I decided enough was enough, and forced myself to sit down and at least (re-)start Jin Li’s faceup. And…I finished it!
It only took me about three and a half hours, possibly because I already knew exactly what I wanted it to look like (I went in blind originally, just feeling around, and until I accidentally ended up scratching the sealant, I was really happy with what I had). Also possibly because I was determined to get it done before I had to go off to school and have all my time eaten! It all appeared to go off without a hitch, until…
SIGH. I either wasn’t concentrating or misjudged or something, but I think I held the faceplace too close to the sealant spray stream and overdid it it, accidentally smearing the contouring on the right cheek. Curses. It’s not a huge mistake, but it does annoy me. Oh, well, live and learn. And sand and fix, later on 😛 Not that Lily’s worried…she’s so glad her boyfriend is back!
Thus February ended, and around rolled March…and university, which ate up a LOT of my time. Language courses always do! But a few things of note occurred…
…was my birthday, and my amazing family spoiled me with Kotone (Greggia, new in box), and totally out of the blue, Mai (Ludmila, new in box) arrived the same morning! I was just delighted!
Mai is one of the rare few dolls I don’t think I’ll often redress in any way, although I’ll definitely let her wear the ‘casual’ form of her outfit regularly. I’m a little worried about her boots — they are hell to try and get on, and I’m terrified of her ankle snapping like Iona’s did. I’m thinking maybe of purchasing and customising some cowboy-style boots for her that aren’t such a tight fit. We’ll have to see.
I can still hardly believe I have Kotone. I wanted a Greggia for actual, literal
years, and honestly never thought I’d own her. Every time glance over to my doll shelf and see her, I smile. She’s so cute it’s almost crazy! I love everything about her, from her storm-coloured eyes to her soft brown curls. See, good things come to those who wait! Don’t ever give up~ Not even on the most unlikely things on your wishlist! *^^*
A prince from a distant land arrived…or Taeyang Wati…just as midterms did! Although I didn’t get to take him out of his box until the 30th, due to studying like crazy. (Fellow deboxers, throw your hands up! 😂) I got him for a bargain price that still makes me giddy when I think about it, which is a double bonus. Something I learned: there is little else as soothing as deboxing and settling a beautiful doll into their new when you’re so stressed out you think you might explode.
I named him Lan, after al’Lan Mandragoran late of the Wheel of Time series, which is a guilty pleasure of mine. Not because I think he looks at all like his fictional namesake, but merely because it fits him. Lan is interesting in that’s he’s the first doll I’ve had who hasn’t “told” me his name, but was happier rather that I chose for him. (I’ll do an entry on how my dolls “talk” to me another day; just trust me that it isn’t as silly as it sounds!) Lan is also interesting in that when he arrived, he was waiting for someone else to arrive. Who? You’ll probably find out later this month~
Thus concludes the ☆人形姫☆ Doll Princess belated February & March retrospective! Pshew. My uni work has lessened a little bit (midterms aren’t quite over yet, though!), so hopefully I won’t be run as ragged as I was during February and March for the rest of the year. I realised how bad it is to work myself too hard and to neglect my hobby — it’s not remotely good for my mental health, which leads to badly done studying, anyway. Don’t be a Rin, ladies and gentlemen; remember to take time off and relax doing something you love!
Stay kawaii, lovelies! I have a feeling April’s going to be wonderful~
(and the two boys, now, too! time for a new graphic! XD)
